A bit about you
HSPS is a subject only offered by Cambridge. I’ve always struggled with self-confidence so I never thought I would stand a chance but decided to apply anyway because of how unique the course is. Luckily for me I was successful and am so glad I decided to take the plunge and submit my application in the end.
How did you find the programme?
I googled practice HSPSAA questions and found the website from there.
How did it help with your Oxbridge application?
I was lucky in that my tutor ended up being in the college I applied for. This meant they had experience of the interview process specific to the college I wanted to go to. It was also really inspiring to hear about their day-to-day life as a student and it made me even more sure that this was what I wanted to do.
A bit about you
For me, the sociological aspect of HSPS is my favourite. At Cambridge we have the opportunity to intersect sociology with other social and human sciences such as international relations and human rights. When I was looking at other universities I didn’t find any other courses that had the same broad approach, and this really appealed to me. While the competition rates for the course are high, you have to be in the race to be accepted so I always thought it was worth a shot.
How did you find the programme?
I’d seen some YouTube videos earlier in the year and they stuck in my mind.
How did it help with your Oxbridge application?
The HSPSAA was something that made me extremely nervous. I couldn’t find as much practice or advice online as I wanted, so being able to talk through the assessment with a tutor who was extremely knowledgeable was priceless.
A bit about you
HSPS and Cambridge both have such a good reputations that it seemed like an ideal course for me to study at university. I’d also challenge anyone to take a day trip to Cambridge and not fall in love or picture themselves studying here!
How did you find the programme?
One of my friends was applying for Law and used the Law programme. They found it helpful so I decided to take a trial lesson for HSPS.
How did it help with your Oxbridge application?
My tutor felt more like a mentor in the end, someone who was supporting my application from the very beginning to the very end. It was the simple things like checking in in-between sessions to see how I was getting on, and sending Good Luck messages on the morning of the interview.
