A bit about you
I’ve always wanted to study engineering since I was a kid. I was eager to apply to Cambridge because the programme closely matched my interests and learning style.
What was your favourite part about the engineering summer school?
Certainly! My favorite part about the engineering summer school was the opportunity to collaborate with fellow students on exciting and challenging projects. We were divided into teams and given real-world engineering problems to solve. It was amazing to see everyone’s unique perspectives and skills come together to tackle these complex problems. We spent countless hours brainstorming, designing, and testing our solutions, pushing the boundaries of our knowledge and creativity. The sense of camaraderie and mutual support within the teams was truly inspiring, as we learned from each other and worked towards a common goal. The hands-on experience and practical application of engineering principles were invaluable, providing us with a deeper understanding of how engineering concepts translate into real-world solutions. It was a truly immersive and enriching experience that solidified my passion for engineering and the power of collaboration.
How did it help with your Oxbridge engineering application?
I couldn’t wait to write about my summer school experience in my personal statement once I finished it! things was tough to keep things brief, but I was able to discuss it in my interview. It undoubtedly aided my acceptance to Cambridge!

I was the first in my family to pursue engineering, so I had no idea what to expect. My sister studied art at Cambridge, so it seemed logical for me to want to study there as well!
What was your favourite part about the engineering summer school?
My favorite part about the engineering summer school was the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects and experiments. We had access to state-of-the-art labs and equipment, allowing us to explore different engineering disciplines and put our theoretical knowledge to the test. The collaborative nature of the program also meant that we could learn from our peers and gain insights from their unique perspectives. Whether it was constructing a bridge model or designing an innovative solution to a real-world problem, the process of working on these projects challenged us creatively and intellectually. The engineering summer school truly provided an immersive and stimulating environment that nurtured our passion for innovation and problem-solving.
How did it help with your Oxbridge engineering application?
Speaking with the engineering students gave me confidence when I was drafting my school application. I had so many experiences to discuss in my personal statement and interview that I felt really prepared when I spoke with the admissions tutors.
