Clare Hall, founded in 1965 is one of the Cambridge Colleges for graduates.  Famous for its international diversity and scenic setting, Clare Hall houses around 200 graduate students and 125 fellows each year.  Students can enjoy a variety of different activities and societies set within a relaxing and close-knit community.  Clare Hall places academic excellence at the forefront of its core values while also emphasising well-being and teamwork, with graduate students and fellows encouraged to mingle as much as possible.

Clare Hall is located on Herschel Road in Cambridge city centre and is found close to Robinson College and the Cambridge University Library.

Financial support

There are several bursaries on offer, including the Mellon bursary, Chibnall bursary and Coales bursary, as well as many more.  There are also several funds available for Masters students who require financial support to undertake their studies.  A Hardship Award exists to support students undergoing financial hardship, as well as a Mental Health Fund for students who require help beyond what is offered by the university’s counselling service.

Accommodation

Clare Hall offers a mixture of single and double rooms.  There’s a large common room available for students to socialise in.  Rooms are organised in houses of 10-15 rooms with shared kitchens, sitting rooms and bathrooms.  Students can live in a variety of different locations all roughly 10 minutes from Clare Hall campus

Sports

Clare Hall is one of the few Cambridge colleges with an indoor heated swimming pool, which students can use via an online booking system.  There is also a gym on campus. Clare Hall Boat Club has a short but successful history and has both men’s and women’s teams.  Students can also choose from a variety of other sports such as cricket, croquet, football and more.

Welfare

Clare Hall has a college nurse who can provide help with minor illnesses as well as offering advice and support.  Members of the Tutorial Office are on hand to provide support and the college also provides a confidential counselling service.

Miscellaneous
  • Clare Hall regularly holds art exhibitions, featuring work by artists such as Alison Brooks Architects, a critically acclaimed design practice, and Mark Calazet
  • Clare Hall holds monthly Jazz Formals, where musical acts are invited to perform whilst guests dine
  • The Graduate Student Body often arrange formal swaps with other colleges, giving Clare Hall students a chance to dine at and meet students from other colleges
