Girton College was founded in 1869 by Emily Davies and Barbara Bodichon as the first women’s college in Cambridge. The main college site is located 2 and a half miles from the university town and comprises over 30 acres of land. With a series of high class facilities, including Cambridge’s only heated indoor swimming pool, students can enjoy a vast range of activities as they stay in this diverse and inclusive environment.

Accommodation | Girton College guarantees accommodation for all years of an undergraduate course. All first years live on the main college site, which is comprised of original Victorian buildings or rooms in the more modern Ash Court. All rooms are single study-bedrooms, with bath and shower rooms on every corridor and shared kitchens. Rooms are around £185 per week, with some en-suite rooms costing more. Postgraduate students are offered accommodation for the duration of their studies, with 2 accommodation areas available for them on the main College site. Most of these rooms are en-suite and located within Swirles Court, although there are several other rooms offered in houses such as the Grange. |
Sports | Girton College have full sized football, rugby and crocket pitches, as well as hard courts for basketball, netball and tennis. Inside the John Marks Pavilion, there are squash courts, a multi-gym and a heated indoor swimming pool. |
Welfare | All students at Girton College are assigned a personal tutor who is responsible for their academic and non-academic welfare. Further academic support can also be provided by the Director of Studies. The College also has 2 nurses who can provide advice and support for both health and welfare issues. A College Counselling service offers students a free and confidential method of discussing mental health. |
