Lucy Cavendish College was founded in 1965 to broaden the academic opportunities for women.  It houses over 600 students from over 60 different countries and has a reputation for its inclusive and diverse community.  With over 90% of students achieving a 2.1 or first class degree in 2018, students can enjoy Lucy’s fantastic academic resources as well as a host of other activities available.

Financial support

A series of funds, including the Bell, Abbot and Barnes Funds, as well as the Crane’s Charity Fund, are available for students who encounter unexpected financial difficulties.  As well as this, there are grants available for travel, research, conference, language or enterprise related expenses, as well as prizes for Medical Electives and students participating in sports at a high level.

Accommodation

Lucy Cavendish College aims to accommodate all its students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, for at least the first 3 years of their studies.  All rooms are furnished with a single bed, desk, chair, lamp, wardrobe, drawers, shelves and a noticeboard.  Students will also have access to shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.  Undergraduate students are generally located on site, whereas graduate accommodation is located a short distance from the main College campus

Sports

Lucy Cavendish College has a gym on site and runs free or subsidized exercise classes.  There is a Sports Centre a short distance away from the main site that has a variety of equipment and space for students to utilize.  Students can choose from a multitude of sports, including football, rugby, badminton, tennis and many more.

Welfare

Lucy Cavendish College has 2 University Counsellors as well as a College nurse.  Students can access these services to receive support and advice relating both to physical and mental wellbeing.  The College also runs mindfulness sessions and activities during exam periods to alleviate stress and give students an opportunity to socialise

Miscellaneous
  • Students can make use of the Music and Meditation Pavilion, as a piano, yoga mats and range of books are available for use at any time
  • Lucy Cavendish has its own private grounds, with several gardens available for students to lounge in and take in the scenery
  • The Library is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for students to make use of.  Librarians are available for appointments for difficult to find materials, as well as areas for students to socialize in
