Founded in 1596, Sidney Sussex College is one of the smaller Cambridge Colleges, with the student body consisting of 380 undergraduate students and 250 postgraduate students.  This allows the College to fully support each student to reach their full potential, with Sidney Sussex known for the high levels of support that its Tutorial team provide.  Ranking fourth highest amongst Cambridge Colleges with Nobel Prize-winning alumni, students at Sidney Sussex can enjoy both fun extracurricular activities as well as their academic studies.

Sidney Sussex College offer grants for transport and research expenses that relate to a student’s study.  There are also a number of prizes available for students who perform particularly well in examinations.  A Hardship Fund is available for students who encounter unexpected financial difficulty.

Accommodation

Sidney Sussex guarantees undergraduate students accommodation for the full duration of their course.  All rooms are single occupancy and fully furnished with a mixture of rooms with en-suite facilities and rooms with shared bathroom facilities.  As well as this, each room has access to shared kitchen and laundry facilities.  Rooms vary from £1421 per term to £1669 per term.

Sidney Sussex College also offers all postgraduate students accommodation for at least the first year of their studies.  This is usually in a College-owned hostel situated in the city centre.  Each hostel has 6-12 rooms as well as shared kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities.  Postgraduate rooms vary from £142 to £167 per week.

Sports

Sidney Sussex has its own on-site gym with a range of cardiovascular exercise equipment and free weights.  As well as this, outdoor sports grounds are located a 15 minute walk away that include playing fields, astroturf and courts for Sidney Sussex students to make use of.

Welfare

A College Nurse is on hand to offer advice and support on a issues with both physical and mental wellbeing.  Students can also receive support on personal, financial or academic issues from their Tutor, who can then refer them to further resources.

Miscellaneous
  • The Richard Powell Library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is packed with core textbooks for students to make use of.  The Library also comes with IT facilities, special collections including old manuscripts, and additional services including book binding
  • The Sidney Sussex Choir perform 3 times a week on the College site.  Featuring 26 students, the Choir is critically acclaimed, having been nominated for a 2013 Gramophone Award
  • Sidney Sussex College have an association with Camvol, a volunteering organization that sends Cambridge students to India in the summer
