St Catharine’s College was founded in 1473 and was founded by Katherine Hall.  Nicknamed ‘Catz’, the College is home to around 400 undergraduate students, 150 graduate students and 70 fellows.  While they are most well known for their sporting record, with Catz Hockey and Tennis particularly renowned, they also have a strong academic record, with over 30% of undergraduate students achieving a First Class degree in 2015. Accommodation

St Catharine’s guarantees accommodation for the duration of an undergraduate course.  First and third years live on the main site, with second years living a few minutes away in College-owned accommodation.  All rooms are single and fully furnished, with all rooms having access to shared kitchen facilities.  There are a variety of en-suite and rooms with shared bathrooms available.  Rent varies from £1206 per term to £2044 per term.

St Catharine’s College also guarantees accommodation for at least the first year of postgraduate study, with many students also offered accommodation beyond that.  This is mainly located in and around the city centre, with all rooms fully furnished and with access to shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.  Rent varies from £1776 per term to £2150 per term.

Sports

The College has a gym on site complete with cardiovascular training equipment and free weights.  As well as this, there are a number of facilities at the local Sports Pavilion and Boathouse, both of which are a short distance from the main site.

Welfare

All students have a Tutor who is often the first port of call for help and support with personal, financial or academic issues.  St Catharine’s have a dedicated Health and Welfare team, as well as a College Nurse, who can help with issues with physical and mental wellbeing.  Finally, the College also has its own Counselling service for students who need mental health support

Miscellaneous
  • The Shirley Society, the College’s literary society, is the oldest society in Cambridge and regularly host figures from the art world for talks and performances
  • The College’s special collections held in the library include rare medieval Western manuscripts and almost 800 books printed in the 15th and 16th centuries
  • The College has a full sick bay and surgery designed to support students with any physical injury or problem
