Regent’s Park College was founded in the 19th century, initially as a place of study for nonconformists who refused to sign up to the doctrines of the Church of England. These were Baptist individuals and this still remains a central part of the College, with around 20 ministerial students in the College. The College offers places in a range of Humanities and Arts and has a great record in these subjects.  Now there are approximately 200 students with around 100 undergraduates, 50 graduates, and 20 international students.

Location

Regent’s Park College is in the city centre, just off St Giles’. The location is within walking distance of most of the University faculties, departments, and libraries, as well as some parks, cafes, and restaurants

Life at College
Societies

The JCR is home to the undergraduate social community at the College. The common room is open 24/7 to students and there is a JCR bar, open most evenings. Student reps host several events from parties and pub quizzes, film nights, and pizza evenings. There is an annual Christmas pantomime and a summer student ball. As well as these, there are over 300 university societies you can join.

Accommodation

On-site accommodation is provided for first year and third year students. Many students in second and fourth year typically live in private accommodation. The on-site accommodation is made up of single study bedrooms. More information can be found here.

For graduates, the College has an agreement with the University’s Graduate Accommodation Office, and they offer 12 rooms for students at Castle Mill, which is located a short walk from the College and City Centre. More information can be found here.

All meals are served in the dining hall and prepared by the in-house catering team. It is cafeteria style and students pay for what they eat. On Friday evenings, there is Formal Hall, and students and staff wear gowns.

Sports

There is a college rowing team for both men and women and both are very successful. Both teams’ row in the ‘Regent’s Shark’ which is the college boat. Don’t be alarmed by never having rowed before, as many people have never rowed before coming to Oxford. The women’s football team competes jointly with Balliol Ladies F.C.

Welfare

Regent’s Park College has a range of formal and informal support to help students with any problems they may be experiencing which includes support from their teams and a weekly ‘Uber-brew’. This is a great way to end the week with lots of snacks and socialising and a good way to relieve stress. The team consists of Junior Deans, student peer supporters, a Welfare Rep, and safeguarding officers.
