University College was founded in the 13th century by William of Durham for the study of theology. Commonly referred to as ‘Univ’, it is the oldest college with approximately 350 students and a medium-size, forming a close-knit community where you can get to know lots of people. The College has a pet tortoise, Percy, and he can often be spotted wandering the quad. University College is a sporty college where students can partake in all kinds of sports, regardless of ability. However, there are many student-organised events including 3 bops a term, the first of which is the legendary ‘Toga Bop’ where students are advised to bring bedsheets!
