Christ’s College was founded in 1505 and has been a prominent academic community since its inception.  It boasts a diverse community, with staff and students from over 60 countries, with fantastic diversity and a host of interesting societies.  Christ’s College has 410 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate students and is supported by a friendly and enthusiastic team of 93 fellows. Additionally, Christ’s college has a strong association with Evolutionary Biology, as this was where Charles Darwin studied.  Christ’s college also possesses a thriving music community, with the college choir regularly performing at the Chapel.

Financial support

Societies

The specific college societies for Christ’s include:

Accommodation

Accommodation is guaranteed for all entrants to Christ’s college.  This extends for the full length of the undergraduate course.  Accommodation is available in First Court, Second Court, Third Court, the Todd Building, New Court and on King Street and Jesus Lane behind the campus. 

Around 40% of the rooms are en suite, with the remainder having shared bathrooms between students.  Each room is furnished with a bed, desk, chair and bookshelves.  All rooms will have designated kitchen facilities nearby, with access to a fridge, hobs and cupboards.  Kitchens are shared between 2-12 students.  Room prices vary, with the cheapest rooms being £1322 per term and the most expensive costing £2024 per term.

Sports

Students at Christ’s College can play a range of sports, including American Football, Lacrosse, Hockey, Squash, Football and many more.  Playing fields are shared with St Catharine’s College and are a 9-minute cycle from Christ’s.  Christ’s also have several squash courts and a fitness centre in the Yusuf Hamied Centre.

Welfare

The Porter’s Lodge is on hand 24/7 for any emergencies, medical or otherwise.  A College nurse is also available to help.  Christ’s college has an in-house counselling service that can provide support, as well as both, male and female welfare officers. Undergraduate and graduate students can also be paired with current students to allow for a more seamless transition into life at Christ’s college.

Miscellaneous
  • Christ’s College boasts several courts, through which you can find the Fellows’ Garden.  This is a beautiful, spacious area for students to relax in and is maintained regularly by a gardening team
  • Christ’s College is home to the one of the oldest outdoor swimming pools in England, which is available for students to use in Easter term
  • The Charles Darwin Sculpture Garden was opened in 2009 and commemorates Darwin’s journey on the HMS Beagle
  • Christ’s College has the Yusuf Hamied Theatre, with a capacity of over 100
  • Christ’s College has a boathouse on the river Cam, providing a training area for the College Boat Club, as well as an area to socialize and take in the view
