Worcester College was founded in the 18th century and is known for its 26 acres of beautiful grounds featuring numerous green spaces, ducks, an orchard, and the College sports field. The College values welfare very highly and has a number of avenues of support for College members with any kind of problem. There are generally 3 bops a term, where two take place in the college bar, and the third takes place in a club. Other regular social events include themed evenings, comedy nights, and charity auctions amongst other events.

Financial support

Pembroke College awards grants for sport purposes, relevant course books, music lessons, language teaching and travel for work-related trips.  There are also College Hardship grants for those who experience unexpected financial difficulties.  Students who achieve First Class Honours in any Tripos examination are also awarded prizes and scholarships worth up to £400 a year.

Accommodation

Pembroke College offers accommodation to all undergraduate students for the full duration of their degree.  All first years live on the main College site, with many students choosing to stay on site in their subsequent years.  There are a limited number of en-suite rooms, with most students sharing bathroom facilities and kitchen facilities.  Rooms are single study bedrooms and come fully furnished.  Rent includes utility bills and ranges from £95 per week to £145 per week.

Pembroke aims to accommodate all postgraduate students for their first year, either in College rooms or in College-owned houses nearby.  All rooms are furnished with access to shared kitchen facilities.  Most rooms have shared bathroom facilities with a few en-suite rooms available.  Rent varies from £107 to £167 per week.

Sports

Pembroke College students can make use of the gym and sports ground just 10 minutes away from the main College site.  This includes pitches for cricket, rugby and football as well as a variety of courts used for tennis, volleyball and other sports.

Welfare

Students can book an appointment with the College Nurse to receive advice and help on both physical and mental wellbeing.  College Counsellors are also on hand to help students with their mental health.  Personal Tutors can offer support from an academic perspective alongside the Director of Studies, as well as offering advice on financial or personal issues.

Miscellaneous
  • Pembroke College holds Formal Hall 3 evenings a week, with students encouraged to attend in evening wear for a 3-course meal made by talented and experienced chefs
  • Students can enjoy a stroll in the Orchard, a beautiful area within the Pembroke Gardens where both undergraduates and postgraduates regularly congregate
