A bit about you
I’m the first in my family to go to university so the whole process was daunting for me – let alone adding in the fact I was applying for Oxford! My school didn’t have much experience with Oxbridge applications but I always knew that this was something I wanted to aim for. I worked so hard at my GCSEs so that I would have a good shot at Oxford and when I got my results back I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t disadvantaged by my school’s lack of experience.

I was looking for ways to improve my chances and gain advice about Oxbridge.
How did it help with your Oxbridge application?
I approached Oxbridge Mind pretty early and my tutor was able to help me with my application from the very beginning. Interview preparation was probably the most helpful aspect but I’m very grateful for all of their support and advice.
A bit about you
I initially thought I wanted to study Medicine believe it or not, but eventually realised that a career in research is more up my street. Oxford is renowned for its international quality of research and it seemed like an ideal place to begin my career. I did well in exams at school but had never been for an interview before in my life so was very nervous!

I found it helpful to do some mock interviews. My school offered some help but I found the Oxbridge Mind mock interviews more realistic and representative of the interview I actually had. I think having tutors that have been through the process recently is helpful for this.

It’s always been a dream of mine to study at Oxford or Cambridge. I decided to study at Oxford eventually because the course was more appealing to me than the Biochemistry courses on offer at Cambridge. I honestly didn’t think I had much chance at getting an offer but was very happy to be proven wrong!

This might sound strange but I think the most helpful part was learning was biochemistry actually is. We don’t study this subject at school and it is distinct from both biology and chemistry. When I had my interview I think my solid understanding of the course and subject, as well as my future career goals, really came across and helped me to stand out.
