Worcester College was founded in the 18th century and is known for its 26 acres of beautiful grounds featuring numerous green spaces, ducks, an orchard, and the College sports field. The College values welfare very highly and has a number of avenues of support for College members with any kind of problem. There are generally 3 bops a term, where two take place in the college bar, and the third takes place in a club. Other regular social events include themed evenings, comedy nights, and charity auctions amongst other events.

Brasenose College is on Radcliffe Square, at the heart of Oxford, next to the Bodleian Library.

Financial support

There are several college grants and funds as well as the Oxford Bursary which are applicable for students to apply to. Academic residence grants, student support fund grants, and various travel grants are also available for undergraduate students. These, and other sources of monetary support are applied for by students via the College Office.

Separately, there are funds available to graduate students, from research grants to travel grants and can be applied for by emailing the College Office.

Life at College
Societies

Brasenose College has a multitude of sports teams, festivals, parties, film nights, sports days, religious festivals, pub quizzes and other recreational tournaments. There is also a large College choir which sings both, in Oxford and internationally. As well as this, there are over 300 university societies you can join.

Accommodation

First-year students are housed on the main College site, and second years normally stay a 5 minute walk away, in Frewin Hall. Third and fourth years have the choice whether to remain in Frewin Hall or return to the main College site. All rooms are for single occupants, and some are en-suite, whilst others are shared, with prices ranging from £1200-£1800 per term. Frewin Hall has shared kitchens for students who wish to cook, and rooms on the main site are provided with microwaves, kettles, toasters, and fridges.

Postgraduate students are housed in St Cross Annexe, a short distance from the College, or Hollybush Row, located near the railway station and Said Business School. More information for the details of postgraduate accommodation can be found here.

The College has its own café which is open for cheap snacks and food during the day, and changes into a bar for social settings at night.

Sports

Brasenose students have access to the College’s sports ground which features grass pitches, tennis courts and a sports pavilion. The Junior Common Room has men’s and women’s football, rugby, tennis, netball, hockey, and other sports. The College also offers free access to the university gym.

Welfare

Brasenose College offers welfare officers, the Junior Common Room, and trained peer support for all students. There is also a College Nurse and doctors, as well as a counsellor and the Chaplain which offers welfare support for students. There are several events for students to engage in wellbeing-centred activities including drop-in sessions, tea sessions, mindfulness sessions, workshops, and more!

Miscellaneous
  • The Brasenose Library holds more than 60,000 books and periodicals, and consists of the Greenland Library and the Stallybrass Memorial Library. The library allows 24 hour access to students.
  • There is an active boat club – rumoured to be the oldest rowing club in the world (founded in 1815)- and an equipped boathouse on the nearby river.
  • The Dining Hall has a self service pay-as-you-go scheme for the purchase of breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. The costs of food in Brasenose College are lower than some other colleges, (£1.30 can get you a small fry-up at breakfast) and special dietary requirements are catered for.
  • The College puts on 32 events during their annual student-led arts week.
