| Admission Test for Computer Science at Cambridge | TMUA + Interview The Test of Mathematics for University Admission usually takes place in November and involves two papers spanning two and a half hours. These papers cover topics from A-Level and GCSE Mathematics. Paper 1 asks questions about pure Maths in new situations, whereas paper 2 assesses mathematical reasoning and logic. Each paper consists of 20 multiple-choice questions. Students applying to any of the following colleges will also have to sit the Computer Science Admissions Test. | Structure of Cambridge Computer Science Course | Year 1 – Topics covered include: Foundations of Computer Science, Java and object-oriented programming, Operating systems, Digital electronics, Graphics, and Interaction design. Assessment is in the form of five papers which also includes a paper on Mathematics. Year 2 – Topics covered include: Computation theory, Computer Design, Computer networking, Compiler construction and advanced algorithms, Artificial intelligence, and Graphics. The resulting assessment comes in the form of four written papers as well as a group project that contains industrial applications. Year 3 – Students can select from a range of subjects such as Computer architecture, Bioinformatics, Theory and many more. Students will also write a ten thousand word dissertation on a project of their choice, which can often be done in conjunction with leading Cambridge researchers. Year 4 – Students interested in a career in academic or industrial research can undertake a further year and obtain an integrated Masters. This involves a substantial research project, which will be presented at the end of the year.
