The Cambridge Manufacturing Engineering course is designed to prepare students to become leaders in value-creating industries. Furthermore, industrial visits and projects involve time spent in various manufacturing environments, and students are responsible for acquiring safety shoes (costing around £20-£30) for use during their studies in the Manufacturing Engineering course.

What is Manufacturing Engineering at Cambridge?3rd Year Students (MET IIA)In addition to ten taught modules, all students take part in a major design project, that enables them to develop an idea from first concept to a working prototype, and produce a detailed business plan. 
Students also benefit from a series of structured industrial visits and skills sessions to develop professional and leadership skills.
4th Year Students (MET IIB)In their 4th year, modules are interspersed with practical exercises, both at Cambridge and in industry. 
Industry-based projects involve working in small groups on a wide range of real problems identified by the host companies. In Cambridge, students develop an automated production line and also prepare for an overseas research programme.
