Worcester College was founded in the 18th century and is known for its 26 acres of beautiful grounds featuring numerous green spaces, ducks, an orchard, and the College sports field. The College values welfare very highly and has a number of avenues of support for College members with any kind of problem. There are generally 3 bops a term, where two take place in the college bar, and the third takes place in a club. Other regular social events include themed evenings, comedy nights, and charity auctions amongst other events.

Financial support

Selwyn College offers assistance to students with unexpected financial difficulties in the form of a Hardship Grant.  The Hepper Fund and the Hodgson Fund exist to assist disabled students, while the Dawson Fund is dedicated to supporting students with mental health problems.  As well as this, there are multiple bursaries and prizes available for students to apply to.

Accommodation

Selwyn College guarantees accommodation for the full duration of an undergraduate degree.  All rooms are fully furnished and students have the choice between Old Court, Cripps Court and Ann’s Court.  First years are accommodated in Cripps Court, where all rooms are en-suite and with shared kitchen facilities.  Second, third and fourth years enter a ballot to live either in one of the Courts or in a College hostel/house.  All rooms in Ann’s Court are en-suite, with Old Court having a range of en-suite rooms and rooms with shared bathroom facilities.

All postgraduate students are guaranteed a room for the duration of their course, with PhD students guaranteed accommodation for at least the first 3 years of their studies.  The majority of postgraduate accommodation is in Cripps Court or in nearby College-owned houses on Grange Road.  All rooms are single and fully furnished.

Sports

Selwyn College shares a Sportsground with King’s College on Fulbrooke Road a short distance from the main College site.  This includes pitches for football, rugby and hockey, as well as further areas for tennis, cricket, volleyball, rounders and many more sports.

Welfare

Students can speak to their Tutors about personal, financial and academic issues.  A College Nurse and Counsellor are also on hand to discuss issues surrounding physical or mental wellbeing.

Miscellaneous
  • Selwyn Chapel Choir has a reputation of being one of the best in Cambridge and puts on regular performances at a number of venues and overseas
  • The Selwyn Mitre Players host regular performances across the College site.  Ranging from musicals to original material to Shakespeare, students can enjoy a variety of performances both traditional and modern
  • Completed in 1929, Selwyn College Library often displays special historical exhibits and curated collections, as well as being home to a war memorial section to honour the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War
