St Anne’s was founded in the 19th century and is one of Oxford’s largest colleges. St Anne’s has always taken part in the widening access to an Oxford Education programme and the College is a diverse and inclusive community today. St Anne’s was originally a women’s college and accepts the highest proportion of female students of any college. The College has an on-site bar, providing a lively atmosphere, and St Anne’s carries its relaxed environment through the Formal Hall, where students don’t need to wear a gown. Location

St Anne’s College is located north of the city centre- a mere 5 minute bike journey. It is close to the Science Area, the Language Centre, and the Mathematical Institute amongst others. The main site is across the road from the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter.

Life at College
Societies

St Anne’s has a thriving music scene, and the Music Society is a student-led organisation for all music ensembles. There are termly showcase concerts which give students a chance to perform. There is an informal acapella choir which meets weekly and performs regularly. The music facilities include four practice rooms with pianos, an ensemble room with a grand piano and a drum kit.

St Anne’s is also enthusiastic about art and offers great artistic opportunities, which include life-drawing workshops, a ‘Writer’s Forum’, open mic nights and more.

As well as these, there are over 300 university societies you can join.

Accommodation

All the undergraduate study-bedrooms are single occupancy, and students live with other students from their year group by order of a ballot. All the accommodation includes kitchens which are shared by approximately 9 students, and there is a mixture of en-suite rooms and rooms with shared bathrooms. There are rooms available for students who require disabled access.

Meals are served in the Dining Hall, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays and brunch on the weekends. Dietary requirements are catered for. The meal service is informal, and students pay for what they eat.

For graduates, accommodation is offered at halls of residences located in Summertown or at the Graduate Centre on campus.

Sports

St Anne’s has a huge range of sports teams for students to get involved with. Most students at St Anne’s row and take part in termly regattas but apart from this, there are male and female teams for football, netball, squash, and badminton. St Anne’s students can benefit from an onsite gym, and nearby pitches for sports, as well as three tennis courts which are shared with St John’s College.

Welfare

St Anne’s College has a dedicated welfare team which includes the college nurse, harassment advisors, academic mentors, welfare reps and peer supporters. Regular events such as welfare walks, film nights, and weekly teas are organised. Students are part of a college family which means they will have ‘parents’ who are second-year students in their course.
