It’s never too early to begin, and it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the test procedure – this handy guide walks you through how to prepare for LNAT, including recommendations on what you should be doing each month to achieve your ultimate aim of acing the LNAT exam. April and May

• Begin to consider which universities you might like to apply to and what their LNAT criteria are.
• For a guide to LNAT Scores for UK Universities, see our blog post: LNAT Scores Guide. This will help you understand the scores required for the LNAT as well as the differing needs of the various universities.
• Be clear on the format of the LNAT and what to expect. For more information, read our article on FAQs, including ‘What Is the LNAT?‘
• Because it is still early in the day, you don’t need to take a lot of timed practise tests at this point, but it is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the test’s content.
• This is also an excellent time to begin developing LNAT Preparation habits, such as reading newspapers and online articles on themes that may appear on the exam’s essay portion (for example politics, law, media and education). Consider what makes the writing effective and convincing as you read. You will write better if you read more!

June and July

• Begin by practising multiple choice questions, essay writing, and learning more about the test process and question formats.
• In June and July, you can start to ramp up the intensity of your LNAT prep. Boost your prep with our LNAT tips.
• You should begin by answering enough questions so that you can recognise frequent question kinds and the method you’ll need to address them.
• You should also practise translating your reading into essays; compare your essays to what you’ve read; can you make your writings clearer, more organised, or more thoughtful? Check out our article on LNAT essay tips for more information.
• You may want to start investing in LNAT resources such as LNAT preparation books, to support you in your revision.
• You might also wish to contact one of your teachers and ask if they would be willing to read one of your LNAT essays and provide feedback.
• Look at multiple opinion pieces online on websites like the Guardian and BBC, divide articles into articles about history, politics, geography etc as per the kind of question topics available on the LNAT. This is a good way to utilise your critical thinking skills and apply them to articles you read, so when you do the actual LNAT 2024 this is something that will come to you subconsciously.

August

• LNAT registration opens in August and LNAT dates 2024 are released, so make a reservation for an LNAT Test at a nearby test centre.
• Remember that you must take a fresh LNAT test for the year you are applying, thus you will not be able to utilise a previous year’s result if you have previously applied. The LNAT results do not carry forward a year and must be freshly written.
• Unless you are applying to Oxford or Cambridge, you must schedule your LNAT test before the middle of January (see the LNAT website for more dates info)

• Consider when you want to take the test and choose LNAT exam dates when you won’t have too much on your plate. Consider when you might be doing University interviews or mocks and avoid such periods. You might wish to choose a date that falls just after a half-term; this will allow you the opportunity to revise, prepare, and concentrate on the test during the half-term. You don’t want to be juggling exams and other obligations!

Revision

• You can make a revision schedule once you’ve registered for the test and chosen a test date. Schedule time to complete tests and prepare essays, as well as to review your work, provide feedback, and make adjustments. At this point, reading is less crucial. Planning is of the essence. Using an app like google calendar or Notion can help you perfectly divide your time and ensure you are making the best use of your time!

• Divide your revision time into sections based on what you need to work on the most. Keep in mind that some colleges place a greater emphasis on component A than on section B, and you should adjust your schedule appropriately. LNAT prep should be tailored to you and the universities to which you are applying. It’s tempting to spend the most time practising the things and topics you enjoy, but these are often the things you excel at and are likely to do well in anyway. Instead, identify the areas where you struggle or dislike and practise them as much as possible to bring them up to the level of your strongest topics.

September – January

• You want to do as much revision as possible before your test. You should be at the top of your LNAT Preparation game.
• To familiarise yourself with the test format, begin by taking practise tests on the LNAT website under timed conditions.
• You can also review our LNAT Guidance to ensure that you are familiar with all of the strategies for improving your results.
• Make sure you have all of your paperwork with you on the day of the test (a full list is available on the LNAT website)
• On test day, stay as cool as possible; being confident and cautious will give you the best opportunity of achieving a high mark.
• Make an effort to put all of the abilities into practise, do this through different critical and analytical tasks!

• Make sure to positively reaffirm yourself, this is an extremely hard test and you had done a really good job to make it this this far, go into the test with a calm and positive mind,  good luck!

Summing it all up

Don’t worry yourself out over studying for the LNAT 2024; starting early is ideal, but any practise will help you enhance your score. If you want to take your exam later in the year, you can change this schedule. Keep an eye out for critical dates like registration and exam dates, and do your best to organise your revision and preparation to get the best LNAT score possible!
